When you actually go to catch Giratina, I recommend your party contain the following pokemon:
A Ghost with Levitate Any Normal Pokemon
Giratina has 4 attacks, Heal Block which for our purposes does nothing, Slash which is ignored by Ghost pokemon, Earth Power which is ignored by Levitate and Shadow Force which is not ignored by Ghosts but which requires one turn to charge. That means you leave your Ghost pokemon in until you see Giratina begin charging for Shadow Force, then switch to your Normal pokemon. The normal pokemon will take 0 damage from Shadow Force, then immediately switch back. Congratulations, this level 70 pokemon can no longer harm you at all. Chip away and throw as many great balls as you need.
Gastly is available at this time, and any normal pokemon will do though a Flying/Normal pokemon will also only take damage from Slash in case you mess up in some way.

Oh, brilliant! Yes, that could be added as a tip to the guide (when i finish writing it) thanks.
Hehe, The way I went about it was I caught one of the Haunters in the cave after weakening it enough with my starter poke (which is ~lvl.23 but strong enough if the Haunter uses irrelevant moves), then weakened Giratina with Haunter's Shadow Ball while it used Heal Block/Slash. Then use pokeballs.
Takes a bit of luck for the Haunter/Giratina to use the wrong moves as you set up this way, but via trial and error you can succeed. This one's a bit more technical, but faster since trying to catch a full powered legendary using Great Balls will take much much longer. Both great methods.

Just throw a Pokeball and hold down Up+B. It turns it into a master ball. Don't you guys feel stupid?

This one's a bit more technical, but faster since trying to catch a full powered legendary using Great Balls will take much much longer. Both great methods. When I catch Giratina early using this glitch, I actually do what you did too, because that Haunter provides the Ghost with levitate. The Haunters in the cave possess Shadow Ball, Dream Eater, Dark Pulse and Destiny Bond. Some of them have Nightmare instead of Shadow Ball but this makes no difference. If you have your normal pokemon (the one you plan to fight Giratina with) you will actually be fine to catch the Haunter. Dream Eater has no effect because you aren't asleep, Destiny Bond is irrelevant, Shadow Ball has no effect on your Normal pokemon. This means that only Dark Pulse can affect your normal pokemon at all. I have absolutely no problem saving as soon as you're in the cave and using a normal pokemon around level 30 (Starly evolution comes to mind) to catch one of the Haunters to complete your two pokemon immunity to Giratina. If you get incredibly unlucky and the Haunter just uses Dark Pulse over and over, just restart at your save point and try again. Now go catch Giratina.

Seems like you saved at the wrong Turnback Cave. The Void is plenty of these empty ones.

Maybe the flags. The Void slightly change in every game due to them. You cold also try a different TBC if you're patient.
