If you had a japanese pearl or diamond game and saved in a Mystery Zone area acording to the centerpeice theory what would happen?

You'd start from a Mystery Zone, I guess.
Also, it's possible to save on a MZ in a non-japanese D/P if you save in a Battle Tower area and reset. That would save a lot of time to catch Shaymin/Darkrai, but unfortunately your steps aren't be counted in BT's Void (the app's counting doesn't increase, EGGs don't hatch, and Repels never wear off), and the two BT areas I found so far don't work on my other savefiles, so they hugely depend on your current set of flags.

I thought that was the original purpose of EK? To save in MZ's?

Well the part about the BT area is interesting. And if we assume you would start in a mystery zone what woul the fake MZ look like and more importinitly what would the real MZ look like I thought that was the original purpose of EK? To save in MZ's? well I highly doubt that was game freaks intent. But You wont be able to do a BSoD test and that makes it pretty risky

darkrai; I mean the purpose for which [not since 2009 or so] we used EK to save always before it was realised that manual saving was apparently safer

EK never worked to save in a MZ on non-jap cartridge for me, despite having heard multiple times than it can. It always just gave the Professor message. It can save in jap version, where the manual saving works as well.
About what the MZ really looks like, I'm not sure, since you're probably referring to the MZ #0, because there are several other MZs (e.g. The Undergroud, unused house from either Survival/Resort area, some glitchy areas). I'm not sure, but I remember seeing the Wireless Club (not sure if that was it, but it one of that rooms where you contact other people and it had a warp zone) after saving in a MZ from Battle Tower and then going back to the initial area, and there were people there that crashed the game if I talked to them (ofc I needed WTW AR code to get to them). I might have forgotten something or the MZ could not be the #0 (maybe #1?), but unfortunately I can't do any experiment right now.
